Kelsie Carlton
"I believe that each person is unique
and deserves a personalized approach."
Hi there, thanks for taking the time to visit our website- I’m glad you’re here! My name is Kelsie Carlton and like many other counselors here, I was born and raised in rural Johnson County. My roots and heart are with these small towns, which is why I am excited to be serving individuals, couples and families in the local surrounding areas!
I graduated from the University of Central Missouri in 2018 with my Bachelor of Science in Child and Family Development and Psychology while working as an Integrated Health Specialist, serving individuals with mental health struggles. I then graduated from the University of Central Missouri in 2021 with my Master of Science in Human Development and Family Science with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy. I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and specialize in treating individuals with trauma. Despite being a young therapist, I have years of experience working in the mental health field and have a strong passion for helping people overcome barriers in their lives in order to create a sense of confidence and stability within themselves.
Starting therapy can be intimidating, so I work hard to ensure that each of my clients feels a sense of safety while in session with me. In order to be successful with this, I use person-centered approaches such as Emotion-Focused Therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. When working with individuals that have experienced traumatic life experiences, I utilize Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I also use play therapy techniques in my work with children. These theories encourage a strong therapeutic relationship and help clients achieve their goals in an interactive and supportive environment. However, I believe that each person is unique and deserves a personalized approach as well.
Aside from being a full-time therapist, I am also a mom of two kiddos who enjoys coaching all of their sports teams, playing slowpitch softball and hanging out at the lake with our friends and family.
I appreciate your interest in our counseling services, and I hope that you feel we’re a good fit for each other. If so, please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have! I look forward to working with you!
